Clutches that make a statement

LITTLE CLUTCHES seem to be making a big statement this season. The clutch has officially become a staple to all wardrobes since its reappearance in the past few years. A small little clutch will complement any outfit. A clutch is good for a great night out at the bar or a quick shop at the grocery store. It can hold all your basic needs and can fit easily in your hand or under your arm.

Clutches seem to have made their way into the majority of stores. I recently found a simple grey one at the Gap on sale for only $7 (Take a trip there; they may have a few left)! Take a look anywhere from H&M to Holt Renfrew and I am positive that you will find the clutch that best suits you, that is of course if you have not already purchased one.

Tights - Not just black and white anymore!

In recent years when putting on tights it was only a decision between black, white or tan. Nowadays this is not the case, tights have become an accessory that can make or break an outfit. Adding a colorful pair of tights to a plain black dress can add a whole new look.

Sequin Shirts

For a statement shirt that can be worn both during the day and at night be sure to find the perfect sequin shirt. According to style.com

A simple sequin shirt will look nice with a pair of jeans for the day and then pair it up with a pair of black shiny leggings by night. Sequin dresses and skirts also seem to be making a big comeback so keep a look out for those as well.

Warning: when wearing a sequin shirt, skirt or dress watch out cause if you are not paying attention it may catch on to something. If your lucky maybe it will catch on to some good looking guy (chances are though it won’t and you will just end up with a ruined outfit– trust me I know)!

Layered Ruffle Dresses

When I was a little girl I would always wear layered ruffle dresses. They were my colorful and fun dresses and now they are back! I never would have guessed this trend would reappear but it has. Layered ruffle dresses are back and they seem to be one of the biggest trends this season (so ladies it's time to stock up!).

The layered ruffle look is everywhere from skirts, to shirts and of course dresses. All the designers seem to be making their own version of this trend so they will not be hard to find. I have seen all different styles from plain colors to busy prints. Match the layered ruffle dress with some simple accessories for what I believe will be your best look.

I am currently on the look out for a layered ruffle high waisted skirt… Anyone seen one around?

PRIMP long sleeve thermal shirts

Without a doubt my favorite shirt is my PRIMP long sleeve thermal shirt. When Wells Butler and Emily Kersman created this line of clothing she wanted to make sure that her clothes were fashionable, girly and comfortable. It was not long until all the celebrities quickly started to catch on. The fast appearance of the brand in the media made everyone want to wear it. The prints on the shirts come in all different designs from strawberries to horses. This brand of clothing comes in all different colors and styles. From sweatpants to skirts the Primp label has a variety of different pieces so I would be surprised if you do not find something you like.

2009 Oscars: Red Carpet Fashion

For those of you who missed out on the Oscars last night be sure to watch the video above for all the extravagant and stunning outfits worn by the stars. The Oscars is the most spectacular fashion show of the year! After all I personally think the best part of the show is seeing who is wearing what! This is the one day you want to look your finest and not blend in with the crowd. This year, the Oscars were filled with all sorts of colorful dresses from all different designers and in all different styles.

I loved so many of the outfits that it is hard for me to choose which one I liked best. In my top 10 are definitely Natalie Portman, Heidi Klum, Alicia Keys, Leslie Mann and Angelina Jolie. Be sure to click on their names to see the outfit they wore!

Old Navy Underwear

For those of you that are a fan of the Hanky Panky underwear but do not enjoy paying so much for them, there is an alternative. Old Navy makes underwear that looks and feels just like them! Thigh High Stockings

One of the trends that I have seen a lot of lately is thigh high stockings. They can be cute, classy or sexy and the best part is that they are inexpensive! They come in a large variety of styles, prints and colors so you will have no problem finding the right pair for you. I have seen them worn with all different types of outfits but they are best if worn with shorts and skirts. I just recently got a pair of simple black ones and I am so excited to start pairing them with some skirts and dresses (and of course my new pair of oxford heels!). I urge you to run out and get a pair because thigh high stockings are one of the up and coming must-haves for this season!

American Apparel Tri-Blend Racerback Tank

One of my favorite most versatile tank tops is the American Apparel Tri-Blend Racerback Tank. Wear it to school or out to the bar with jeans this shirt can serve many purposes.

Oxford Heels – This Seasons Must-Have

Lace up Oxford Heels are the new trend this season. They are sexy and sophisticated and can be worn during a regular day at work, with jeans or out to a club. These shoes will look extremely classy with a pair of black tights and a black dress. Style it up with some colorful accessories and your good to go.

I just got my first pair from Nine West and I cannot wait to start wearing them once the weather gets nicer! It seems that all the shoe companies are coming out with their own versions of this shoe. Roots Leather Purses

If there is one thing every girl MUST have it is a Roots Canada Leather Purse. Roots leather purses come in a variety of different styles and colors. With this large variety there is a purse for women in all different age groups. On top of the wide variety of purses they are also built to last. If something does happen to the purse Roots will send it to get fixed at no charge.

I personally have the venetian village purse. I purchased it last summer before I travelled Europe and it was the BEST possible purse to travel with (no pick pocketers for me!). I use it for all occasions whether I am running to the mall or going out for dinner with friends. I cannot say I have any other purse that has been as practical as my Roots purse.

Happy Valentine’s Day

HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY! Today is a day celebrated by a lot of individuals but absolutely not all. I woke up today and then picked up a friend to go shopping in downtown Toronto. It was not my most successful day shopping, but I did manage to purchase one shirt from Forever 21 (I must say that I was NOT impressed with the selection in the store). Prior to coming home I decided to pick up a big bag of low fat caramel popcorn from Kernels for my parents for Valentine’s Day. Funny how I buy the popcorn for them but then end up eating almost half the bag tonight while watching The Notebook. I would do that.

Anyways I think I am going to change the mood and watch Prom Night which is definitely not a Valentine’s Day movie!

Plaid shirts are not only for boys anymore

Recently, one of the biggest trends that we just can’t seem to miss out on are plaid flannel shirts! Plaid shirts are just about everywhere and the best part about them is that they are usually reasonably priced. These shirts come in a variety of different color combos and so you can find the one that best suits your style. All the stars are wearing them including Jennifer Aniston, Kate Bosworth and Ashley Olsen, just pick up your weekly People Magazine and you will see that all the stars are wearing them!

South Beach Collection by OPI

As I sit in my bed looking at my newly painted and recently chipped nails I start to wonder what color I should paint them next. Of course I decide to go to the oh so fun OPI website to try and find the next color for me! OPI recently came out with their new South Beach Collection and it features what I believe are some of the best colors for this spring and summer!

I am currently wearing “Catherine the Grape” but after my class at 5:30 I hope to go out and purchase the color “Overexposed in South Beach” a vivid purple that apparently will attract a lot of attention. Maybe it will be my lucky day!

I personally am constantly chatting on my cell phone, but after watching this video I am going out and purchasing a hands free headset (I used to have one but then my computer chair decided to roll over it – oops). We live in such a technologically savvy society and it is almost impossible to go somewhere and not see people chatting on their cell phones. We need to be more concerned about our health and the negative effects of cell phones.

Sex and the City Movie Sequel!

For those who thought the show was finally over after the Sex and the City movie, you thought WRONG! All four women have committed to doing a sequel and so Carrie, Miranda, Samantha, and Charlotte are coming back. So get ready for some more cosmopolitans, Manolo’s and feel good time! Producers are even thinking about having more than one sequel to the film. I guess we will just have to wait and find out.

Tiffany’s Charms

A must have for all girls is the Tiffany’s Heart Tag Charm Bracelet. It is the classic sterling silver bracelet with Tiffany’s heart attached to it. I have had mine for years and it has not gone out of style yet (how can you go wrong with a silver bracelet!). The great thing about it is that Tiffany’s has a wide selection of charms you can purchase to add to your bracelet. It gives your bracelet a nice touch and allows you to pick and choose between charms. Being able to pick and choose allows the owner to purchase personal pendants of things which may be signifiers of things going on in the wearer’s life.

Technorati Changing the Web

With today’s advanced technology individuals are able to do more with the web then they ever were! Thanks to web 2.0 individuals are able to take part in an online community whether through social networking sites, wikis, blogs and many more ways. Dave Sifry created the internet search engine Technorati. Technorati is the primary blog search engine and is used to track the blogosphere. “As blogs continue to become more and more viable news and information outlets,” Technocrati increasingly becomes more and more useful in the online world.

120,000 new weblogs being created worldwide each day. That's about 1.4 blogs
created every second of every day”

Within all of the weblogs is the increasing growth of tags (metadata) used on individual blogs. For those of you who are unsure a tag is a keyword or a term that is linked to a specific bit of information. These tags are then seen across all different forms of social media. Technorati takes these tags that blog authors have put on their sites and uses them to categorize search results, with the most recent results appearing first.

There is tremendous growth in the amount of tags being used on the web today. Individuals are using tags and clicking on tags as they have become increasingly more useful when looking for specific information. The use of tags has “become a phenomenon across the Live Web, and we are seeing a correlative explosive growth at Technorati”.

Blogs have become increasingly popular becomes they feature a variety of different languages. 37% of blogs are Japanese, the number one blogging language on the web. Following Japanese is English at 33%, Chinese at 8% and then Italian at 3%. This variety allows people from different cultures to find blogs for them on the web.

The biggest problem with this increase in blogs is that many individuals are starting to rely on blogs to get their daily news information. This is a huge issue because bloggers post information as soon as they know it and check the facts later if at all while news reporters check out information before they report. This is not good because blogs are not always going to provide accurate information. The web is also seeing an increase in splogs (Spam Blogs) with 3,000-7,000 of them being created everyday. These splogs cause more problems because they are providing their readers with false information. Sites like Technorati allow users to search for the specific things they are interested in. The problem is if it directs people to these splogs which then help spread false reporting. This seems to be common in the blogosphere.

Although Dave Sifry introduced web 2.0 to this truly amazing search engine and the use of tags, is it really successful as a source of today’s mainstream news? This quick and easy approach to finding out what we want may not be as accurate as we would like it to be. What do you think?
