Stay warm in BURBERRY

Who says you can’t look good in your winter wear. If you are looking for a fashionable way to keep warm this winter I highly recommend you check out Burberry’s collection of scarves, earmuffs, and gloves. Burberry has a variety of different colors so you can get a matching set of earmuffs and a scarf so it will look really cute with your winter coat. For those really slushy days why not get matching Burberry rain boots to complete the look. The Burberry print is a classic look and will not be going out of style anytime soon. This will definitely be a worth while purchase!

Keep warm this winter!

Bangles Galore!

Magnificant diamond bangles worn by Michelle Obama to the inaugural balls.

If you feel like just putting on a black dress tonight and are not sure how to dress it up, why not put on some bangles! A plain outfit does not necessarily mean it has to be a dull outfit. Bangles are a fun and easy accessory and you can find them pretty much anywhere.
If you are looking for inexpensive bangles you should check out Urban Outfitters, Forever 21, and Claire’s. If you’re lucky you could find some really nice vintage bangles at second hand stores or I highly recommend you go to Kensington Market in Downtown, Toronto. If you are looking for something a little pricier then I definitely suggest going to Holts and exploring what they have there. Some of my favorite luxurious bangles are from the designers Mannelli, Hermes, and Tiffany’s.

Jizz In My Pants

For those who have not seen this UNBELIEVABLY FUNNY Saturday Night Live clip you have been missing out. I personally have watched it probably 100 times and it still makes me laugh hysterically every time. Jamie-Lynn Sigler and Justin Timberlake both appear in this short as they are two celebrities that enjoy these cameos. This is a fun and entertaining way for them to showcase another side of their talent and to participate in something a little different.

This video is a parody that is making fun of the pop genre. It is funny to think that Justin Timberlake would be in this video because he first started out in a boy band. Instead of hiding the message within the music and the videos like all boy bands do, this one is just putting the message right in your face from the beginning.
For those who have not seen this video yet prepare to become easily addicted. For those of you who have already seen it, I am sure you know what I mean!

Top 10: Most Desirable Canadian Women of 2009

Isn’t it funny that the day after I blog about Vogue’s 2008 top ten best dressed I come across the TOP 10 MOST DESIRABLE CANADIAN WOMEN OF 2009? According to celebedge.ca the following is a list of Canadian women, who according to a survey done by askmen.com (a men's online magazine) are this year’s most desirable women:

Kreesha Turner (Edmonton, Alberta)
Shenae Grimes (Toronto, Ontario)
Leah Miller (Etobicoke, Ontario)
Avril Lavigne (Napanee, Ontario)
Elisha Cuthbert (Calgary, Alberta)
Rachel McAdams (London, Ontario)
Jade Raymond (Montreal, Quebec)
Anna Paquin (Winnipeg, Manitoba)
Evangeline Lilly (Saskatchewan, Alberta)
Emmanuelle Chriqui (Montreal, Quebec)

From this list I must say Canada seems like a pretty good looking country! However isn't it sad that these lists even come out. Why is it that I do not come across lists for the top 10 most skilled women in Canada? Instead we are always curious to know which girls are going to be in the Playboy calendars. Why do people even care about these lists? Do they serve any real purpose or is it just for superficial purposes? And on another note, Anyone know who this year’s top 10 most desirable American woman are?

Classically Chic

As I sit on my couch watching Dazed and Confused I decided to go about my usual internet surfing. I came across a fashion style quiz and decided to take it and according to the Ladies Home Journal my fashion style is: Classically Chic!

“You're a woman who loves her life -- you've worked hard to get where you are,
and you're darn proud of it! You are brimming with confidence and assertiveness,
and friends and colleagues know that if they need help solving a problem, you're
the woman to see.”

Loving the quote up above however the type of clothing in the results which is suppose to describe my style = SO NOT RIGHT! I always wonder who comes up with these quizzes and if in the end they really are accurate… What do you think?

I'll Report, You Decide!

It is crazy that today’s media world is controlled by only five companies! Having a few conglomerates running today’s media leads to a shortage of opinions being communicated to us. We do not have a choice to listen to different perspectives and as a result a few media companies are deciding what to show us. Whatever they decide to leave out we will never know about.

In my blogging class (yes, a blogging class!) we watched a film called OUTFOXED: Rupert Murdoch’s War on Journalism. Rupert Murdoch was the CEO of the Fox News Corporation which is one of the big five conglomerates that control today’s media. “This film provides an in-depth look at Fox News and the dangers of ever-enlarging corporations taking control of the public's right to know” (www.outfoxed.org). Through all of the media that Rupert Murdoch controls his total audience reaches ¾ of the world! This is unbelievable. Fox is said to be extremely controlling over their news casters and what to say and how to say it. The station claims to be a balanced station presenting all different sides to the story but in the end many believe they really only lean towards the conservative view (If you were conservative this would not be such a problem – but IT IS!). By only broadcasting one side Fox news is trying to persuade their viewers to adopt the company’s viewpoints. If I were to only watch Fox News I would most likely start to take on these conservative views because it would be the only information I would have.

It may be a generational thing since my dad loves FOX and he says it is the only network which gives a balanced view. I guess the issue is really not that cut and dry.

The film OUTFOXED takes issues with FOX for reporting stories about Martha Stewart and other “celebrities” instead of reporting serious issues like the columbine shootings The news is for news NOT gossip. The film implies that by hardly reporting the Fox News Corporation is blurring the lines between news and commentary. Via cheap and easy stories Fox News is able to get a gut reaction and interest from their viewers. It is interesting to compare this perspective to my dad’s. He has the exact same criticism of the other main media outlets. He says they all have a biased liberal view and only tell one side to the story – theirs.

We should hold all media outlets to a higher standard and not let them portray only one opinion. We as individuals need to confront those with the power and we need to take it back. There needs to be a balance of the voices and views which are being put out in today’s media. We are today’s future leaders, it is up to us to try and gain more control over our media intake.

So any ideas on how to start?

Risky Business

Wouldn’t it be easy if we knew everyday when we woke up or every night before we went out what we planned on wearing? Let’s face it that is just impossible (unless you went to private school that is). Tonight I am going to a party (yes I know it is a Tuesday night but hey that’s life at the University of Western Ontario for you) and thanks to celebrity hottie Tom Cruise I do not have to worry for a second about what to wear. In case you have not guessed it yet the theme is RISKY BUSINESS! As soon as my hair is dry and straightened all I have to do is put on my oversized white dress shirt and a pair of black shorts and I am good to go. If only getting ready was that simple…

Anyways I have to go take care of some business ;)

Tide to Go can't fix all quick stains...

This morning I woke up to yet another cold and snowy day. Monday is a dreadful day for me to begin with since I have two three hour classes back to back from 12:30-6:30. In between classes I have ten minutes to run from one end of campus to the other. My friend helps me through this mad dash and gets me my usual whole wheat and honey bagel lightly toasted with cream cheese. During the race I grab a coffee from Tim Horton’s.

Today we got into class and while my friend went up to the front to speak to the professor she gave me her food to hold. When she came back I handed her back her the food, BUT while doing this I knocked over my large double double with skim milk and sweetener. It spilled all over my tall chestnut UGG’s, jacket and the outfit I was wearing. Of course this happened at the very beginning of class making me sit through a three hour lecture in wet clothes!
My clothes are currently in the washing machine as I wait anxiously and pray that the stains are all out. Any tips on how to clean my boots?

Wish me luck!

Customize Your Style

Nameplate necklaces are definitely one of this year’s must haves. Whether in gold, silver, cursive or block letters every girl should have one. After all who could forget the classic nameplate necklace worn by Carrie Bradshaw on Sex and the City. These personalized necklaces are unique and definitely make you stand out. Oh and how can I forget, wearing a nameplate necklace out to the bar will help that guy you just met remember your name (maybe even a Facebook add the next day?)!
If you are looking for something a little simpler, your initial on a necklace is another way you can customize your style and look very classy. You can also tailor your style through horoscope necklaces. I have yet to get one of these, but if you happen to see a nice Sagittarius one let me know!

First time for everything

I have given a lot of thought as to how to embark on my new mission to be an avid blogger. Starting was hard but then I thought of the Nike phrase: Just do it! So here I am sitting on my bed after an exciting night at 29 Park (a trendy club which for many seems to be the place to be on a Friday night) adding a new hobby to my list: blogging!
Oh by the way I’m Jessica! I am currently in the third year of MIT (Media Information and Technoculture) at the University of Western Ontario. The reason I am starting this blog is for a class I am enrolled in called Blogging! Can you believe it?! Anyways get ready to read about today’s latest buzz, fashion and my life as a university student.

Care to be fixated?
